Meet the flexible investment account
An NRSP is a non-registered account that lets you save without worrying about contribution limits and withdrawal rules. It’s a great option if you don’t have any contribution room left in your registered accounts.

Benefits of an NRSP

No contribution limits

There are no contribution limits, making it easier to save for long- and short-term goals. But keep in mind two things: your contributions won’t reduce your taxable income like they would in a registered account, and investment gains are taxable.

Withdraw any amount at any time

You can withdraw your money when you need it. But be mindful that with a non-registered segregated fund, capital gains or losses may occur every time you move out of a fund.

Control over your investments

You can choose from all types of investment products to diversify your portfolio and give your savings an added boost.

Who can open an NRSP?

There’s no minimum age for annuitants. For non-registered segregated funds that are purchased through a life insurance company, you need to be 16. Otherwise, you need to be 18 (or the age of majority in your province or territory of residence) to own a plan.

How to invest with an NRSP
You can boost your savings in an NRSP with income-generating investment products. The types of products you choose depend on your risk tolerance, timeline and goals.
