I started answering The Co-operators phone at age nine (1980). My father, Marc, was the local Co-operators agent in Embrun, ON. He was serving clients mostly for their insurance needs, and his office was in our home. It was fun and it gave me an early introduction to talking and interacting with clients, taking payments and transferring messages. All without computers and the Internet!
After a student exchange program in Bangkok, Thailand, I completed a Business Communications degree at the University of Ottawa. Economics and the financial markets (fixed income and stock markets) were my favorite topics.
In spring 1994, I joined The Co-operators, purely for fun. Then, one day, one of my new clients had an automobile accident. He was a high-school friend and was quite impressed by our claims service. I felt rewarded and understood that I made a difference by advising him to purchase the right coverage. It was an eye opener that made me realize the importance of the role of an insurance advisor in our society. At that point, I put aside other avenues (bank manager, stockbroker and construction), started selling insurance and decided to pursue my career with The Co-operators.
Today, the same passion animates me. We have over 2,000 clients. To each of our clients we provide personalized service to help them find the right products to meet their insurance and financial needs.
I am well surrounded by a team that helps me deliver our mission: Financial security for Canadians and their communities. I spend most of my time helping clients make financial plans so that they can reach their goals, such as retiring comfortably. I enjoy helping clients maximize their standard of living with proactive financial and estate planning.
As a husband and a father of two teenagers, I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as playing hockey, cross-country biking and wake-surfing at the cottage.
I currently serve on the board of directors of the Unique FM radio station and am a member of Entrepreneurs' Organization (Ottawa).
