I began my insurance career in 1994 due to two situations that occurred in my life. First, losing a parent and, years later, being involved in a motor vehicle accident in 1992. Both these situations showed me that when events like this occur without proper insurance coverage, complications can arise and happen to all of us. As such, I was compelled to enter the insurance field in 1994 upon recovery from my accident. I then joined Co-operators in 1996 and took over my own office in 1999.

We are pleased to have the opportunity to help protect our clients and it is especially rewarding to know that we are fulfilling my original goal of helping others.

Prior to starting with Co-operators, I worked in the oilfield industry for nine years. With the birth of my daughter, I decided that I needed a career change to better my family and be at home more. Since starting with Dickau Insurance & Investment Services Ltd., I have found the career I'd been looking for. As the assistant office manager and a General Insurance Advisor, I find that every day is a whole new experience. I enjoy meeting our ever-expanding range of clients and showing them the friendly side to insurance through honesty and a welcoming environment. I am currently striving to expand my knowledge on home and business insurance, and look forward to a long career in this industry.

Please call me “Figs,” since Fiacre (pronounced Fee-a-cra) can be a mouthful.

In 2005 I was inspired to come to Canada after landing an exciting new career opportunity in Calgary. Together with my wife and two children, I left Ireland for what we thought would be a six-to-12-month adventure. Our daughter, Zoe, took to the stage, and our son, Adam, took to the ice, and my wife, Denise, and I took to life in Canada. There was no going back!

Watching my son excel as a hockey player and grow to be a determined young man, and attending my daughter’s vocal and theatrical performances are two of my favourite things. I’m also passionate about being active and I love mountain biking, soccer, swimming and cross-country skiing. I’m keen to try any athletic activity — especially in the great Canadian outdoors!

After 20 years as a professional printer (print media expert) both in Ireland and Canada, my circumstances changed dramatically due to a serious health issue. I learned through the hard school of knocks about the importance of having the right life, disability, mortgage and general insurance for every age and stage of life. As luck would have it (and the Irish are known to have a bit of it), a new career path presented itself and I’ve successfully landed at Co-operators.

I’m excited and privileged to be working with the team at Dickau Insurance & Investment Services Ltd. Our team is extremely knowledgeable, professional, helpful, and fun to work with. Job satisfaction is definitely a huge part of the reason why I’m passionate about helping others find the right insurance and investment solutions. I came to Canada from Europe with a background in teaching literature at a secondary school. After arriving in Calgary, I had many opportunities, but quickly became drawn to the insurance industry. I joined Dickau Insurance & Investment Services Ltd in the fall of 2015 as a receptionist, and soon after, I obtained by General Insurance Licence. I look forward to furthering my career and helping our clients meet their needs.
