Three product updates for plan sponsors to consider
Make sure plan sponsors are aware of the new options available, and changes they can make, to enhance their benefit plans.
Health Care Spending Account (HCSA)
Plan sponsors now have the option of a 30-, 60- or 90-day grace period for claims submissions after the year ends.
Medical Cannabis Coverage
Groups with over 100 lives can ask to have medical cannabis added to their Extended Health Care coverage. It is available to plan members with:
- Chronic pain associated with identified medical conditions
- Muscle spasticity in multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
We continue to consider this an eligible expense under a Health Care Spending Account (HCSA), provided all necessary Health Canada Guidelines are met.
Extended Health Care
We no longer limit coverage for wigs and hairpieces to hair loss from traumatic injury or chemotherapy. Coverage has been expanded to include several medical conditions where a wig or hairpiece would be medically required or necessary.

Continuing benefits, STD and LTD coverage while on approved leave is optional for plan members. Here’s what they need to know.
