In-house CPPD applications are now easier for plan members
Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPPD) benefits are available to qualified individuals who can’t perform work of any sort because of their medical conditions. Service Canada, who administers the CPPD program, requires all applicants to complete a series of complicated and comprehensive application and medical forms.
CPPD is the first payor for most disability benefit plans. Insurers ask disability claimants to apply for CPPD benefits if they’re unlikely to return to work.
Several years ago, we realized how difficult the CPPD application was for disabled individuals to complete. We contracted a third party to help claimants with their CPPD application and appeal if necessary. While this system didn’t always result in the best client experience, our disabled clients didn’t have to worry about the complicated application process.
Recently, we improved the client experience by bringing the CPPD application and appeal work in house, using our own experienced and compassionate disability claims staff. This initiative has had a positive impact on our disabled claimants. With this program in place, The Co-operators now provides the highest level of CPPD services available from any carrier.
