Scott Builders Inc., Advantage Insurance Group-Lacombe & Stantec on board as Lacombe Sportsplex sponsors

Lacombe, Alberta (September 28, 2016) – The Mayor Steve Christie today joined special guests to welcome Scott Builders Inc. Operations Manager Mike Wagner, The Co-operators Advantage Insurance Group Financial Advisor/Owner Warren Schnoor, and Stantec Regional Leader, Alberta North and Territories, Todd Simenson as the newest sponsors for the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.

"On behalf of Council, I am delighted to both thank and welcome Scott Builders as the public art sponsor, The Co-operators/Advantage Insurance Group as the concession sponsor, and Stantec as the sponsor of four dressing rooms within the sportsplex," said Mayor Steve Christie. "With their generous support Mike, Warren and Todd are making a positive and meaningful contribution to the community, and this helps the City better meet the long term sports, fitness and recreational needs of Lacombe and area residents."

"At Scott Builders, one of our values is to have a positive impact in the communities in which we live and work in," said Scott Builders Inc. Operations Manager Mike Wagner. "Many of our team members live in Lacombe and we are very pleased to provide a contribution to support community recreational and sport facilities. We are also excited to see what the local arts committee has chosen for the public art installations."

"We are very proud to be the concession sponsors for the newly renovated Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex," said The Co-operators/Advantage Insurance Group Owner Warren Schnoor. "We believe sports and recreation facilities are an important part of all communities, and we are excited to play a small part in supporting those activities here in Lacombe."

"Local recreational facilities are such an important part of bringing a community together, and contributing to local pride and spirit, that is why we’re excited to be working with the City of Lacombe to design and manage the refurbishment and expansion of this critical piece of community infrastructure, ensuring a safe and sustainable facility," said Todd Simenson, Regional Leader, Alberta North and Territories, Stantec. "We are also pleased to extend our involvement with this sponsorship to help support the ongoing operations at the sportsplex, which contributes so much to the residents of Lacombe, Lacombe County, and surrounding communities."

"The County is pleased to see so many of our corporate partners demonstrate their willingness to invest in local recreational facilities, which benefit everyone within Lacombe County," said Lacombe County Reeve Paula Law. "We are very appreciative of the ongoing sponsor support from businesses in the community for this facility," said Chief Administrative Officer Norma MacQuarrie. "The sportsplex is an important regional recreation hub, and I am encouraged to see the community get behind this project."

The Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex is currently undergoing significant renovations through to January 2017. The renovations are based on feedback received from user groups and the public. Once complete, the refreshed facility will:

• Better serve all user groups

• Ensure that the facility - a major recreational hub in the region - meets the long-term needs of Lacombe and area residents

• Serve as the home ice for the CHL Lacombe Generals - 2016 Allan Cup Champions

Connecting to our community

At The Co-operators, we believe the world is a better place when we take care of the things that matter most. We help build stronger, safer communities by actively supporting issues like distraction-free driving, mental health, flood safety, and sustainability.

Ask us about our community involvement and our national safety initiative Drive out Distraction. Distracted driving is a factor in one in every four crashes and is increasingly putting our communities at risk. We all play an important role in making our roads safer and you can help by taking our distraction-free driving pledge.

Check out some of our other partnerships like In Your Face and Interactive with award-winning drummer Mitch Dorge from the Crash Test Dummies (available in English only); and Kids Help Phone. Both help support and educate young people in our communities.

In 2015, The Co-operators contributed $5.8 million to support Canadian community groups.
