Youth and Education programs
Young people are best poised to advocate for their needs and to facilitate positive social change that addresses the needs of their communities. The Co-operators partners with community organizations who provide support to youth and to organizations that provide youth leadership programs.
Co-operative Youth and Young Leaders Programs
The aim of these programs is to contribute to the personal development of youth and encourage their active involvement in community and co-operative organizations. Through interactive and engaging activities young people gain an increased understanding of co-operatives, credit unions, and the skills and self-confidence to become co-operative members, employees, and leaders in their communities.
Enactus Canada – Supporting youth mental health
Mental health is a significant issue on Canadian post secondary campuses, with an estimated 65% of students indicating they have experienced overwhelming anxiety (Source: National College Health Assessment). That’s why we’ve established The Co-operators Mental Health Project Accelerator, along with Enactus Canada, for the 2018/2019 post-secondary school year. The Project Accelerator will provide Enactus student teams with the opportunity to receive funding and mentorship on projects that support mental health in their communities. The Co-operators also provides mental health training to Enactus students and created the Mental Health zone at Enactus regional and national competitions, where students can access relaxation stations, healthy food and discuss strategies to better manage their mental health. Our partnership focuses on building the mental health and resiliency of post-secondary students as well as helping them do so in their communities.
Enactus is a national charity with over 3,300 students from 74 Canadian universities and colleges. The organization rallies the energy, ideas and passion of Canada’s best and brightest students and brings them together with academic professionals and industry leaders to address economic, social and environmental issues.
