Corporate Giving Program
In 2012, over $1 million was donated to numerous charities, not-for-profit organizations and activities across Canada through our Corporate Giving Program. This program is composed of three areas: Directed Donations, the United Way and Corporate donations.
Directed Donations
In 2012, the Directed Donations program was replaced by
The National Co-op Challenge to celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives. After receiving applications from co-operatives across the country, 24 finalists were selected to participate in a competition for support based on videos they created and shared on Facebook. A total of 8,342 votes were cast and $220,000 was donated to 12 emerging/expanding Canadian co-operatives across Canada.
United Way
The Co-operators has a proud history of supporting the United Way’s annual campaigns across Canada. The Co-operators Foundation provides a corporate donation to United Way chapters across Canada where our staff live and work.
In 2012, we raised $737,548. $326,655 was raised through a corporate contribution of and $410,894 was raised through a number of staff-led office campaigns.
Corporate Donations
This program funds national charitable organizations as well as regional and local organizations where we have a large business presence and where our local agents are involved.
When reviewing funding requests, we consider the following criteria:
- Is this program or cause national in scope?
- Does it contribute to a safe, healthy and sustainable community?
- Does this initiative have local Co-operators, Board and/or staff/agent involvement and/or support?
- Does it have broad community support?
