Drive out Distraction
Our commitment to road safety
Two seconds is all it takes for a distracted driver to double their risk of collision. Texting while driving? Your eyes are off the road for an average of five seconds, increasing your risk of a crash by 23 times. But the risks of distracted driving go beyond smartphones and texting.
Our program, Drive out Distraction, raises awareness and encourages Canadians to change their driving habits. Watch our public service announcement: “Treat driving like it’s your job”.
Take the distracted driving pledge. By working together, we can reduce the risk of distracted driving and safely share our roads. Change is in your hands.
Canadian Coalition on Distracted Driving
The Canadian Coalition on Distracted Driving (CCDD) was formed through a partnership with the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF), Drop It And Drive®(DIAD) and The Co-operators. The first coalition of its kind in Canada, the CCDD represents a broad cross section of stakeholders from government, police, academia, industry, not-for-profit sector and community. The goal of the committee is to develop a National Action Plan to help combat distracted driving in Canada.

As a result of the work of the CCDD, a centralized, accessible collection of research and resources on distracted driving that can benefit all road safety stakeholders has been created. The CCDD E-Hub contains the latest research, educational programs and tools, current data and legislation in Canada, visual aids, other web-based resources and examples of practice.
